10.25.16 // #27 – love confined to closet doors

love cannot live in closets
where the doors are mirrors
forcing us to see what is
inescapable and undeniable

love cannot live in closets
where the doors creak with the age of wood
that has held a trillion other loves

love cannot live in closets
where nightmares wait
and there is a painful wound
in discomfiting silence
and subtle pricks from needles laced with passive vitriol

love lives in closets because
of the disapproving glances
the sighs of disappointment
the slights of
“one day, you’ll find Someone”
and you want to find a soulmate
not a Someone
and
it’s feeling like
it is the heavies sin
with a feeling of
“i’m not supposed to feel this”
or
“there’s something wrong”
or
“maybe one day
i’ll wake up in a different body”

love lives in closets
because we cannot wear love
on our sleeves
like others do
