10.25-26.16 // #28 – i. am. not. a. woman. & those. are. cigarettes. not. insults.

it is an unparalleled agony
to hear It spoken from the mouths
of those who’ll never get it
why they can’t say it
please don’t
it’s a reminder
that we aren’t people in your eyes
even our lips can be cemented
despite…well? nothing
it’s like another bat to the head
or shove into a wall
or kick to the stomach

it is an unparalleled agony
to be seen through one lens
as one thing
but really being someone
who needs to be seen through two
to hear pronouns and labels
that are endless thumbtacks
pierced through infinite pores

i put on nonchalance
like the thinnest blanket
used in winter
it’s not enough

it is an unparalleled agony
to settle for needles and tacks
when you live in a world
where others get papercuts
